Evaluation Question 4

How did you use media technologies in the construction, research and planning, and the evaluation stages?

Blogger - I have implied ranges of media technologies throughout my A2 media studies course. From my research, planning, evaluation and also construction, I have used Blogger to upload all my posts and throughout, I realise it very easy and straight forward to use. Without the blogger, displying my finished products would be quite difficult. with blogger, I was able to embed videos and presentations from Youtube, Prezi and Emaze which was really helpful as it shows the viewers where my inspirations are coming from, being able to share pictures from the internet or photoshop.


Youtube - using youtube proves hat its a very reliable media resources to use, I found using youtube very easy as its a site that i am quite familiar with and I used it for various reasons and my knowledge progresses the more I use it.
youtube enabled me to research music videos of any genre and I was able to build up my knowledge of conventions through watching youtube video. I also used it to research existing music videos and found variouss clips that i can therefore relate with and take ideas on board.

Premier pro - premier pro is very advanced when it comes to comparison with my previous movie editing tool imovie. with its timeline based editing application, I was enable to assemble footages quite easily due to the fact that I had previous knowledge from using the when creating my last year's movie clip. when using premier pro, I tried to use most editing techniques to my advantage such as slow-motions, reverse clips, colour changing etc. i also used it to plan the stages as well. to edit my storyboard animatic video.

Photoshop - photoshop was used when it comes to creating my ancillary tasks, photoshop is the miost challenging of all as its advanced ability and being able to go off task quite easily but I therefore made a decision of experimenting with different ideas and also watching clips on how to do what.
the software gives me the ability to import which I can then work into etc.

Google - google is the most helpful tools to use as it contains detailed information on whatever i want to know about. I tend to use googles quite often when it comes to adding logos in my ancillary task, pictures displaying common conventions which I compare from to my own task etc.

Evaluation Question 3

I also did a more detailed research on MixMag target audience as it links to my chosen music and from my research i can draw that there is a high percentage of males that aremore likely to be a typical fan as males make up 72% of the readership. Females however only make up a tiny 28% in comparison to the boys. this then inspired me to making my own music video that will appeal equally to males and female as that will therefore lead to more distribution.

Magazine advert - I showed members of my target audience what their thought were with my magazine advert, they then gave conclusions suce as " Your magazine advert is very interesting to look, can also see that it contains informations needed for me to know all the necessary further info i would want to know"

Cd Digi-pack - after my music video, I showed my target audience my Cd Digi-pack and the feedback I got was - " I like the fact that the colour is quite bright as it makes feel more interested in your work and alsom me wanting to see more" - tyler
" i like the fact that you kept the same picture from the magazine advert with the image on your cd digi-pack back cover, it makes it easier to understand that its the same product.

construction: Editing

After my recording for my music video was done, i imported all the recorded clips to premier pro ready for editing, the first process i did was having all the clips in the right order so it becomes easier to select next cnenes that needs to be edited, i then replaced the footage audio with my chosen music audio.

The next step then involved following my previous animatic video on what scene goes before the other,



















The image below is of a scene in the music video where is edited the clip to play backwards, the reason i did this was to shows that there is a great knowledge with the use of premier pro and also make the video more interesting to watch, during this editing, i realise the scene wasnt working as good as i though it would, the solution to then fixing this problem is then render the clip and that worked successfully.

This image above contains a black and white effect and the method it took for me to be able to produce this was going into the video transition folder then the adjust folder and the i selcted the ProcAmp that was dragged onto the clip. i then had the video setting which i can then go to and have the ability to change the effects that are done.

Shot List

The shot list is a focus plan to follow before filming so I have a detailed idea of what camera angles, shots and the activities that are going to be taking place in each scenes. the list will provide step by step details of the requirement that are needed for each shot. the list will therefore contain the locations of each shot, the actors included in each shot, the numbers of shots that are going to be included and also short explanation of what is going to be taking place in each shot.

Planning: Props

Props are very important when it comes to making any media filming production, the reason for this is they give the audience an idea of what type character they are viewing, for example if the character is rich, then some form of expensive accesories will be found on them therefore this show some factors of realism.

Teddy bear - this children toy is used a lot when it comes to involving children into filmings etc, it shows the fact that they are innocebnt and vulnerable and makes them a character the audience will feel for the more. a teddy bear is quite easy to provide thinking reasonable to the fact that every children would have one or more. the reason this toy is going to be in use is due to character three's age, it seems like an appropriate use of prop to give more understanding of what type of a person she is.




Due to what is going to take place in the music video, the use of a chocolate bar  will commence as a scene will take place in a small shop having a character buying a chocolate bar. although this might seem like a hard task to make a scene in a shooping location however i believe there's a shooping location that is proven to be available for use.

Lighting

The location that the filming will be taking place will be both interior location and an outdoor location, this therefore means I have to be aware about the outdoor lighting so its suitable for my music video, for example, filming might be ready to take place and then finding out the weather is really cloudy which will lead the filming looking dull.



My main location where my filming is mostly going to be taking place is my house. The reason I choose my house is because firstly I have access to use the location, secondly the music video is going to be based on a families relationship so its right to use a family home as the main location.


Lighting can make a big difference to music videos as light can:
It can control the mood of the video (e.g.. bright lighting could connotate happiness).
It can make the viewer look in a certain direction and it can put emphasis on main elements of the video, for example an important prop or facial expression.

In order to make our video seem more professional we have decided to reshoot some of the shots in our video for example: the stop motion figures of Mat in the street due to the lighting not being bright enough.

Photoshop Editing Practise 2

This is a Photoshop practise I did to simply improve my knowledge with Photoshop, this simple process involves finding a random female photograph to practise on. the reason I choose this image is due to the angle that she is leaning her head, make it me think more about positioning and also the proportion that is needed to be taking in account if any editing is done.

I firstly started with the body tone, basically changing the contrast to giving the image more colour.

then my thoughts lead me to thinking about using surrealism which can be anything from changing any parts of her face to whatever possible. i then though it would be a great idea to change her original eyes into one of an animal giving the image a surreal look. in this process, i cropped an image of a snake to maximise the eyes which i then replaced for the female original eyes.


Here is the finished image i had and i therefore come to realise theres more that could be done to make this better, for example blurring the outline of the snake eyes to make it look more realistic etc.

Here another practise i did in a whole different method but quite effective

Planning: Costume

There are various options to choose from as I try to get the right costume to represent the performers age-wise. The reason why costume is very important is simply because it shows a time a form of professionalism for example, the costume matching the theme of the music video like an heavy rock music video would have performers looking dark with long hair and jewellery etc.

(1st costume) - The costumes plays a great part in music videos as it helps identify what music genre the music  video is in. I then realise that the costumes that will therefore be  used might not cost me much simply because of the casualness aspect the video is going to have. The first character's costume is going to be a green hooded sweatshirt, this coloured jumper is used for a specific reason such as using a stereotypical idea that young people tend to wear bright coloured clothing. I then researched into the cost of this particular hoodies as a back up plan incase the clothing might need to be bought.

I have also chosen a blue jeans because its a piece of clothing that as a wide variety of audiences that it appeals to and also this clothing is know to be used by all age group which makes it stand out to more audience.

(2nd costume) - A dark coloured t-shirt, this piece of clothing gives the audience an opposite opinion to character from the first character. 

Planning: Casting

The reason casting is very important before making a progression into filming a sense is having a reassurance that the characters are suitable to perform the role. the characters i have chosen are people that i have spent a lot of time with so i therefore know what roles they are suitable for the most, there is also going to be the use of lip syncing as this shows a great knowledge of skill that will portray the

Character 1 - Victor olatunbosun

Victor is a very reliable individual that is prepared to accept a challenges, he is quite confident on camera but sometimes loses focus but nevertheless he is a capable individual for character 1.









Character 2 - David olatunbosun

David is a very active individual and isn't shy from the camera. he is also realiable to take on the role for character 2. however due to his age, he doesn't have much experience with performing in front of camera.
















Character 3 - Daniella martis





Daniella martis is a very young female character, the reason she is chosen to take part in the music video is the fact that she brings a pure innocent mind which therefore means the audience have more sympathy towards are compared to the other characters.

Planning: Filming Location

Location is very important when filming as the location need to be suitable, meaning no distruptions that can lead to difficulties when filming. This then refer to me thinking in depth about the right location to use, the first thing that came to mind is using a well knowned location for my music video so i therefore know what to expect using the location.

I also though about lighting as this playes a hugh part when fimling any media production, if the location is an indoor location, I though about equipment that  will be needed to make the right lighting for the music video however if its an outdoor location, I though about what time of the day will be perfectly suitable for to use, the reason I though about this is due to past experience of using the wrong time of the day for filming and leading to not getting the right amount of filing done on time.

My first chosen location which i think will be very suitable for my music video is using my house as a location, the reason i choose this location is the availability, the fact that i can use the location at anytime that i find suitable makes it very reliable to use and another reason for this location to be chosen is the fact that my music video is going to be based on a family lifestyle and using a family home makes a perfect match.

The music video is going to start of with the first character in his/her bedroom. so therefore having a bedroom that looks steroetypical to the characters bedroom is very important, the reason for this is for example, a teenager cant have a bedroom full of antiques and traditional designs that is more likely to be suitable for an older character.

Graphics Match Test

Here is an experiment I did using editing to therefore produce a Graphic match, this is great editing technique to use as it show a great perception of understanding.The idea  have chosen for this is simply using two framed art-work, tilting the camera from the top to the bottom of the artwork and then therefore doing the same method for another artwork the other way round and the graphic match was done through editing making the first artwork's frame looking similar to the secong art work and the the only different in the video will be the art in the middle of the frame.

I started of with selecting the video clips that i have took of the artworks and then went through an editing process of matching both clips together to make it look as one.

Research and Planning Self Assessment

Research into existing music videos

From the evidence provided in my Blog about research into existing music videos, I think it is classed Basic due to the fact that there aren't enough evidence to make it a Good Research. The reason for that is looking at my blog, there is only one research into existing music video which is Save Me - Listenbee. so therefore, the only way to improve on this situations is by doing exactly the same research for other existing music video as that show the knowledge and understanding I have when it comes to researching music videos.





Research into a potential target audience


From the evidence I have on my Blog about research into potential target audience. I think there is a Good research being evidenced in my blog about potential target audience because of the detailed of writing being produced in the research and also the way it as been represented as it makes sense.

 

Work on storyboarding


Looking at my blog I can see that there isn't a good amount of information about the storyboard on my blog which therefore means its on a basic criteria.




Time management


My time management isn't very good simply because I have posts that need to be finished in high detail, the solutions to therefore getting the posts done on time and by being more focused on what am doing. I also need to keep the posts at a good standard  for every post which means putting more time on every post I do.



Use of digital technology or ICT 


My use of digital technology or ICT is good from what I can evidence, the reason for this is I have explored different media when posting on my blog as that shows great understanding of what I am doing, For example I used PowToon which is totally different to what I have used before however finding it good to use when I  learned how to use it.



Communication skills


The communicating skill on my blog is good because I made it quite easy to read and understand. I also check out for the use of punctuation as it shows professionalism in my work making it a good post.



 Level of care taken in the presentation of work

The level of care taken in my presentation of work is quite good, the reason for this is that its well presented to show the understanding of what the work is all about, For example, the research of existing music video is well presented as it was produced stage by stage breaking it down to make it better to understand.

Green Screen Lip Sync Test

Green screen lip sync test is a practise I did to explore more about Adobe Premier pro and knowing skills that can be used to have a successful music video. in this practise, I used a footage of a female student lip syncing Adele - Rolling in the deep. the plan was to use both footage together to make compatible and therefore have the female performer in front of the existing music video to match both together.

 

      First of all, I imported both footage on premier pro, having Adele - rolling in the dead video and soundtrack together  however just having the video from the female performer and cutting out the sound as I am using the one of the actual music video. The footage with the female student is a video made with a green screen background, and my aim was to get rid of the green screen from the background and therefore having Adele's music video as my background.

To do this I used Eight Point Garbage Matte to crop around the female student but not too much that can lead to bits of the female student missing. the reason for this is to remove creases that can appear a different colour due to the green screen so it doesn't affect the music video on the background.                                                   

 

 

I then used Ultra key to remove the green screen on the background completely, this the made an outline of the female student removing anything that's green and making the female student in the centre of an actual music video. however what I learned about this is if I was to remove a green screen from another video using Ultra key, I must make sure that the bits that I want to therefore be in the actual video doesn't also have green as that will disappear also.

 

 

Here is the video I did of both footage together to make a Green screen lip sync practise using editing to get two completely different videos together so it actually makes sense.

The think that could have been improved in this test is having a less crease green screen because as you can evidence the video above, you can see a slight outline around the female performer and to make sure that doesn't happen I need be well ironed green screen  so therefore the creases doesn't show up in the actual edited video.



samsung s5 slow motion camera testing

Due to exploring ideas for my music video, I looked into using slow - motion camera to see the effect I will get from it. This test include the use of Samsung s5 which I used to show my exploration with other camera equipment's, the Samsung s5  record videos at your phone’s highest possible resolution, be it 8 MP or 13 MP. You can choose the frame rate for the video after recording and watch it.

Planning : Storyboarding and Animatic

Here is my storyboard animatic which is intended to give a brief idea of what my music video is suppose to look like.  The process in which it took for me to do this is simply writing the lyrics for my music video Listenbee - Save me on a long strip of paper. i then did sketches of each scenes that i want to be included in my music video looking at different camera angles and also location to make an effective.the process of creating this

Here are some examples of the sketches i did and what i make sure i did was making the drawings clear to understand. for example, one of the drawings had a staircase so i make sure the composition of the staircase is right otherwise it wouldn't look like a staircase.

  Here is the video of the shot list that i did with the lyrics written out on a long strip of paper. this as then been set in order to match the lyrics, for example, the pictures being places where certain parts of the lyrics are as that will be the same situation when making the music video.

What my next plan was is to make a video of my animatic using Premier Pro and then matching the scenes with the actual chosen music.
